Oplevel — Shaping a Data Platform Still Being Built
Tools & Software
Data Analysis
Problem
Oplevel is a three-person startup building a novel analytics platform on an activity schema model, a different approach to client data from conventional medallion or dbt-style architectures. Working on a product this early means the platform itself is still evolving, so client work regularly runs into gaps between what the platform can currently do and what a client actually needs.
Process
Day to day, this means writing transformations and building dashboards for clients across industries like healthcare, cannabis compliance, and media, while also acting as a feedback loop into the product itself: reporting bugs as they surface, working directly with clients to understand what features would actually solve their problem, and working with the developers to figure out what's feasible to build and when. That's meant a steady stream of formal feature requests, plus regular input on UI and UX decisions from the perspective of someone actually building on the platform daily rather than just using it.
Outcome
Client delivery has stayed on track across a genuinely varied set of accounts despite the platform being early-stage, and the feature requests and feedback raised have fed directly into how the product itself has developed.
